Breezy Johnson, top U.S. downhill skier, to miss Beijing Olympics

Breezy Johnson, the United States’ top women’s downhill skier, will not compete in the Beijing Olympics next month after suffering a knee injury in a crash in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, she said. Johnson immediately felt a “massive crack” in her knee and said a large chunk of cartilage is partially dislodged.

“I was given the option to try to compete on it. But I don’t think that is realistic or smart,” Johnson said in an Instagram post. “I could do more damage and I certainly don’t think I will be skiing my best.” Read More
