Analysis | A star-studded NCAA women’s basketball season has no shortage of contenders

There has been no shortage of star power in women’s college basketball this season, and the brightest stars have played their teams into contention for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament with Selection Sunday about two months away.

It’s too early to consider a team a lock for the top seed line, but South Carolina is about as close as it gets in January. The Gamecocks (16-0) are the last undefeated team in the country after Baylor and UCLA each suffered its first loss in the past week. Per Her Hoop Stats, South Carolina is expected to be a double-digit favorite in every remaining game of the regular season, including its tilt next week against defending national champion LSU.
