Abby Tamer on the influence of her mother, Olympic dreams and what makes field hockey so unique

Team USA will compete in Pool B in women’s hockey in Paris, drawn together with second-ranked Australia and No.3 Argentina, as well as Great Britain, Spain, and South Africa. Top-ranked Netherlands, the Tokyo 2020 champs, are in Pool A.

Tamer, with her athletic roots, has appreciated her growing international experience, something she’s approached with a sponge-like mentality: “All the international trips that I’ve been on have been super valuable because you get to see so many different different field hockey players and different styles,” she said. “It’s given me a lot of inspiration for the way I play.
